Mike's 1964 Galaxie 500 Fastback.

Mike purchased his Galaxie in Adelaide in 2002. He was basically after a good rust free roller to have some fun with. He drove the car approx 2700 miles during his Christmas holidays, via the Great Ocean Road back to his home in Cairns.

He rebuilt the entire suspension including new custom springs front and back, Koni adjustable shock absorbers all round, custom 1" sway bar, 1971 Galaxie disc brakes, and changed from power steering to manual steering.

The engine is a Ford big block, 521 Scat stroker crank, Scat conrods, Probe pistons, A-429 alum heads, Manley stainless valves, YT race rockers, Australian Muscle Parts sheet metal valve covers, Victor intake, MSD billet dizzy, 6AL & coil, also interior module selector, Comp Cams big hydraulic cam & vacuum cannister, 950 HP Holley, Victor water pump with Gilmore drive, ATI super damper, Melling HV oil pump, High Energy pan, Aeromotive pump and return style reg.....Phew!

Exhaust mods include HPC coated Crites headers, 3" mandrel stainless steel exhaust, x-pipe, and custom stainless steel mufflers.

The transmission is a tricked up C6, with extra clutches, billet servo, full forward manual, Convertorshop 3000 stall convertor, and Hurst pistol grip shifter. Feeding power to the rear is a 4" custom driveshaft with 1350 billet yokes.

Power gets put to the ground through a 3.9:1 Detroit locker, with Moser 31 spline axles. Caltracs do their best to stop wheelhop during his crazy burnouts!

Interior upgrades consist of new upholstery, carpets, Autometer instruments and heaps of reproduction interior stuff, including dash knobs, bezels, light bezels, speedo & gauge bezels......but no fuzzy dice!

The exterior has also had some upgrading with new front and tail lights.

Mike uses 3 different fibreglass bonnets. A pro-stock, Hilbourne scoop & now Crites teardrop style scoop.

And this is where it all began.
At the age of 17, Mike had himself a 1955 Chev 4 door sedan.
With a 327, borrowed 780 vac Holley, 3 speed manual, posi rear end, and with fibreglass front and bootlid, the car had great potential to kickstart his burnout career off.
Some things just never change.....apart from going to a Ford.
Amen.
