1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 Fastback
The car is home now, and I have had a chance to look over it, and I still can't believe I actually own the car.
Especially a car with an R code 427 and 4 speed under the bonnet!

FORD GALAXIE CLUB OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA
With quite a few friends of mine now owning Galaxies, it has been decided that we will now try to reform the Ford Galaxie Club of Western Australia again, after it's failure in the early 1990s. Please contact me with any enquiries.

Update May 2010.

After owning this car for 9 months, I thought I'd might as well start something up and give an update on what's been happening.

Firstly, I cleaned it up and did some appearance things to get it looking pretty sharp.
Then the main aim was to get stuck into it, and get the important things done so that I can get it close to inspection time.

I straightened a couple of dents on the aluminium grill.
Fitted wiper arms. Fitted front windscreen mouldings.
Sourced horns and got them to work.

Had to replace the brake master cylinder and all 4 wheel cylinders, as I found out on my first drive with a permit, that the car wouldn't stop!
Sourced bits and pieces for the park brake set up. The car had nothing there. No levers inside the rear drums, no cables, no lever or bracket at the gearbox cross member. Had to fabricate some of the parts.
Removed bumpers and repaired slight chassis damage at the rear, and radiator support rust at the front. Also had to replace the battery tray and the section below it which were rusted through.

Restored the steering wheel with some filler, paint and clear. Found a real nice horn ring on eBay to finish it off.
Cleaned up the carpet area around the console, and it now looks prety good. But I do really need new carpets at a later date.

Top Loader had to come out, as it was leaking like a sieve. Briefly checked through it and re-gasketed the gearbox.
Cleaned and painted the trans tunnel and surrounds while it was out.
Spent at least 10 hours on each side of the front suspension, removing 47 years worth of baked on grease and grime. Scraped, thinners, degreaser, high pressure water......you name it. Then painted the lot.
Had some of the exhaust modified, as it was leaking from the joint at the factory 427 headers, and it also need to be raised.

By driving it to the exhaust shop, it was pulling to the left, so I decided it needs a wheel alignment. So before doing that, I thought I would lower the car by about 3 inches. Rear leaf spring removal was easy, and I took them to a suspension shop.
Front coil removal was not so easy, but in the end I found the right method, and I got them out.
Once it was lowered, there was a slight problem with the passenger's side inner tie rod rubbing against the idler arm. Turned out that it had a slight bend in it. All fixed now, repainted and with new rubber boots.

So here it is today in my backyard, with it's new stance.

I'm happy so far.

Next up will be to check out the engine issue I have, and then take it in for it's inspection.
